Global Solidarity Action Week for Cambodia

Date:

Friday, January 10, 2014 - 12:00am to Wednesday, November 20, 2024 - 9:41am

Cambodian garment workers protesting for a rise in wages faced a violent police crackdown on January 2, 2014. Subsequent arrests and violence at an industrial park mark an escalation of repression on workers simply asking for a fair living wage. Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development joins organisations from the region calling on international civil society to hold a Global Week of Action starting Friday, 10 January 2014. Friday will be a day of protest against state repression of workers, protection for workers’ right to freedom of assembly, and right to a living wage.

Memorial for Stephen Coats in DC

Tuesday, November 26, 2013 - 4:30pm to Wednesday, November 20, 2024 - 9:41am

The Board of Directors of USLEAP invites you join us in honoring Stephen Coats. To our great shock and sadness Steve passed away suddenly last April. He was the Executive Director of the U.S. Labor Education in the Americas Project since 1990. Many of Steve’s friends and colleagues could not attend the services in Chicago so we are organizing a gathering to remember, celebrate and honor his life, family and work.

Date:

Wednesday, November 20, 2013 - 2:00pm to Wednesday, November 20, 2024 - 9:41am

Over 1100 workers died and many more were injured when the Rana Plaza factory building collapsed in Savar, Bangladesh, on April 24. This is not the only major accident in the clothing industry’s supply chain in recent years. For example on November 24, 2012 more than 110 workers lost their lives when the Tazreen Fashion Factory on the outskirts of Dhaka caught fire.
